If I wanted a car that drove itself, I'd take the bus.

Getting your driver's license in florida is a joke. The open road test that I did was literally driving out of the dmv plaza, making a right turn, and then driving back into the plaza. Combine that with people paying others to take their roads and sign test online creates stupid drivers.

If your city is mainly centered around the car, then nothing can fix the traffic problem. It's just an inherent issue with the car. Only fix is to get some of those people out of their cars, and on to mass transit, bicycle, or walking. In an ideal city, each of the three modes will carry about a third of traffic. Trying to fix the problem by staying focused on the car is simply inviting failure.

Lane closures don't have a one-size-fits-all solution. On the freeway, when you see the sign that says "____ lane closed in 2 miles" it would be better to get over sooner rather than later, so that traffic is already in a single line and can just keep flowing when the lane count decreases, as opposed to waiting until you're at the orange barrels and nobody wants to slow down to let you over, thus causing a slowdown. Zipper merging is most efficient where traffic is backed up already at the lane decrease, except people, on average, just aren't good drivers, and they fuck up the pattern/flow.

1:34 Really the solution here is to double your speed. That way, traffic flow remains unchanged even as number of lanes are cut in half. It works the same as putting a nozzle on a hose.

Sadly, no. For some reason, most Americans think roundabouts are harder and less efficient than traffic lights.

I found traffic occurring due to large trucks and minivans as well as trucks that are similar to UHAUL. The technology of the car also is important for making phone calls to reduce crashing. Sometimes it is a very careless driver who is just driving ‘at the speed limits’ whereas in every nation, state and/or city there are booklets for knowing what speed levels they can go up to. Sometimes it is due to stoplights that are right at the exits or just ‘curious’ people who want to know what happened. The most important part is about the one lane road as well as if there’s a slow driver in front of you, including how slow other cars behind it are going including how long you must wait behind each stoplight. If you know what road to take without going to the highway, then that system could be your backup You forgot to mention these.

Let those 5 cars merge in if they need to and move on. The accordion effect diminishes when you make sure your vehicle never fully stops. To do this always leave that 5 car space in front of you. (Don't let more cars merge than the space you have between your car and the one 5 space ahead.) Merging doesn't mean you need to wait fir other traffic. Keep your car moving.

If you've driven in L.A. you have to slow down to 20mph in some interchanges. This causes a massive jam no matter what. No amount of self driving cars can fix that.

2 hours to go 18 miles? That's quite bad. But I think I have discovered a time when round-abouts don't work. I got stuck at one during rush hour and it took forever to get through. I had to cut someone off in order to get in. (And of course as I was exiting, I saw the perfect opportunity enter.) But then again, I do live in Michigan. Not only do we have the worst roads, but we also have some terrible drivers.
