If you had to charge with the generator you would have to park for a long time . Plus you would have to find a place that won’t mind the noise.

drive till you run out of battery juice and see how long it will take to charge the tesla.

it would be kool if you rented a tow behind generator to see if it would charge the car while driving so you didnt have to stop. obviously not a permanent solution but might be fun.

The generator has a ground connection screw!
You can make a fast-disconnect grounding spike out of copper pipe some wire & alligator clip.
solder one end of wire to the pipe and the other end of wire solder to a alligator clip.
The alligator clip connects to the Generator's ground screw/post & the pipe goes in the ground.

I'd need a lot more than 12 miles to get to a public charger from my house. By the thesis of the video: If I was at a campsite or jobsite in a remote location that lost or had no power, then you are likely to need >40 miles to reach a public or tesla charger. Cityboys don't understand the country realities. You cant just go a mile to farmer Brown's house and ask grab an extension cord for the next 3-17 hours. His dog will bite you or you'll get shot.

Real life situation is a hurricane or icestorm grid power loss for days.
In a city: You and 100,000 other EV owners are not going to be able to use your cars. Longest I've been without home power was 5 weeks in 1979. Three weeks in 2006.
In the country it is 12-20 miles to even a small town. Five village round trips a week is 200 miles. That's a lot of generator or even powerwall energy, when the generator or solar battery is also running your house.

EVs are great when the grid is great. Hybrids are probably best when SGTF due to 60mpg. Diesel hybrids would probably be the best...but who makes them.

Why are you still using 120v receptacles to plug in the mobile connector and not 240v 40 amp (or higher) circuit? Same thing with the generator you used.

Why not get a better gas generator with higher watts like 2400 Westinghouse iGen2500 Portable Inverter Generator or even 4000 Champion 4000-Watt RV Ready DH Series that can do 20 amps.

Next test solar panel charging... if you fill the entire cargo space with solar panels... how quickly can it charge?? .. should be able to exceed the small generator here.

Depends what you want the duty cycle to be. If you average 3 miles per kWh and and average 60mph on your trip then you will need a 20kW generator of course that trailer will knock you to 1.5 miles per kWh. Go with a Kohler 60hp 40kW genset powered by a John Deere 4039T- the X can tow 4000lbs, right?

                                        • Information is not knowledge

Most gens can output 240v, doesn't tesla have a charger that handles that? Using 240v would keep the amps down, no?

Bonding the ground to neutral doesn't give you a proper voltage reference and will cause damage to sensitive electronics, including the battery. Without a proper ground, voltage floats, which is why the Tesla stopped charging, as a way to protect itself.

this has been invented to use in locomotive on train long ago in1879 by seimens , with out a need of lithium battery and still using today. so may be get a bigger generator, take out the lithium battery, I bet you it going to drive just fine and you don't need to charge it. it will take 5 min to pump a full tank.
