The 5.0L is a GM Small Block. 305 cubic inches. Very popular in 90's Chevrolet/GMC Trucks.

Seeing you guys out of your element is kinda hilarious/awesomeness. 5.0 is a small block smaller than a 350 aka 5.7. 5.0 is a 302-305. Driveline lube is probably like rearend oil in your car or same concept anyway

a Chevy 5.0 is a 305 cid .... if you're gonna put an Edelbrock (or any carb) on that motor, make sure you are absolutely positively buying one that is specifically built for marine applications....VERY IMPORTANT! Automotive and marine applications are COMPLETELY different.

It's a small block because the distributor is in the back as a big block is in the front

You guys must want a big ticket/fine. You are REQUIRED to have a spotter when skiing or wake boarding It’s like a $300 fine. Learn the rules before getting on the water.

When you’re on the lake make sure to get a flag to hold up when he’s down otherwise if there’s a coast guard and u have no flag you’ll get a ticket

That could be a Ford engine Mercury also used Ford and GM throughout the years it just depending on what year your motor is even then they used different years all the time it's kind of like Jeep they kind of had parts from everywhere

It is a small block engine and never take it out by yourself it's a pain and you can actually take those out and put a 350 Chevy engine in there.

5.0 is a 305 small block Chevy engine and I’m pretty sure that it has the throttle body on it with is all controlled by a cpu. I would leave the tbi on it not swap to a carburetor. Need to check the drive line lube like your oil every time you go to run it. Keep up the good work.

If you actually pop it out, you'll change the fluid quick and easy, just like power steering fluid for example

Take a look on the flame arrestor on top of the carb, it will list the max RPM which I believe is 4500 for the 5.0L engine. You need to get another tach and verify the readings of the gauge in the dash.

Also DO NOT put a standard Holley carb on this engine. You MUST have a marine carburetor because the venting of the fuel bowl is different to prevent raw fuel flowing into the hull in the event of a float valve failure.

I know a lot about boats, and i know you are looking at an old 12k motor over there. It's a big engine but not the biggest at all, a in board motor is modifyble and can add some hp to it. Only the fin in the back can give you 20hp more if you put on a dual prop

Mercury Marine stopped using Ford blocks in the late 70s and switched to a GM block. Easy way to tell is the distributor location. If it's in the back it's a GM block.

As far as replacing the carburetor, marine carbs are designed a bit differently than an automotive carb, to reduce the risk of fire. That vent fan is also to vent the engine bay of fuel fumes prior to attempting to start the engine. Boats that aren't maintained properly are fire and explosion hazards. Be safe. I love watching you're channel.
