VR feels like it needs at least ten more years to be a true immersive experience, right now is a gimmick.

Linus when there is a sponsor: vr is great

Linus when there is no sponsor from oculus: it's dead and it sucks

      Dude stop being a hypocrite.

vr is dead because no one wants to wear all that shit and jump around there room to play a video game, same reason why motion sensors didnt take off. people cant even be assed with 3d glasses. People just wanna sit on there ass with there controller and/or keyboard and play a game. hence why higher resolutions/better graphics more fps do well but nothing else does.

I think it's just needs to be cheaper that's all I dont think people want to spend on vr as much as they do on a mid range PC and I think vr games need more optimization for mid low PCs

But other than that I think vr is good

VR isn't exactly dead but some companies are going to lose a shit ton of money before it reaches critical mass or even sell respectably for that matter.

When HTC vive or oculous rift sell for $200 then I'll be interested psvr and the like are more like cheap trash and it shows when switching over.

Just got into VR and I'm loving it. The social experience I get to have are incomparable to regular gaming while in vr.

i tend to agree vr has come a long way but it still has issues. a lot of those issues though the oculus quest addresses and maybe more all in one headsets can help to bring vr to more people.

This is the video I was looking to see from Linus, going throughout all the issues with the VR world. I was going to get one of this, but I have the same opinion. It still needs to be developed.

i returned my Oculus rift after 2 days i got it, VR its just not that cool/fun for the price you pay. you will wow the first time you try it but after 1 hour or 2 it's meh experience, lame games, motion sickness, alot of problems. save your money and wait for the good stuff, if there ever will be any good vr stuff

Oh goodness, unfortunately Linus and team just dropped quite a few rungs on my respectometer. There is a severe lack of understanding of the VR industry and silly expectations around the technology. This is a poor video. (Linus and team should remove it IMHO).

Gamers are lazy simple as that. As an owner of HTC Vive, I'd rather sit down and play my game in front of a screen.

Much like how Wii died out. First couple of games was immersive, but then, the beer goggles have died out.

Theres 4 million PCVR headsets sold + over 4 million PSVR headsets its not dead its just growing slowly.

You would think linus would be the kind of guy to support and be excited about a new technology because he loves technology .

But any VR video he does is just constantly shitting on it . He has to realise it takes a big effect when he gets up and dismisses the technology.

Idk what linus problem is with VR but its getting annoying just be happy about the innovation.

I live 25 minutes from my office. My neighborhood has no sidewalks and let's face it, I don't want to be hospitalized because I was hit by an unattentive driver. Again, my neighborhood has no sidewalks. So therefore, it's impractical to buy one. VR suffers the same problem, at least for now. I don't want to spend several hundred dollars on a system that is really cool, but has limited use.

VR headsets barely or do not fit on many large smartphones like my 6-inch ZTE. VR headsets require you to take off your rubbery protective case on your smartphone that we really do not want to do, especially if we have one that is hard to put back on. It is hard to find much interesting content on youtube to watch VR and not get bored after one evening. the image quality that is worth watching takes higher bandwidth than we can get without a lot of buffering. inexpensive vr cameras that are simple to use and upload to youtube and have acceptable quality may not exist. seems even the expensive ones blur as objects get a few feet away from the camera. So good cameras are too complicated and expensive and even so do not work so good. watching videos on youtube is limited and works poorly. headsets are hit and miss and do not work for most that like wearing glasses at home, unlike the engineers who design the headsets that wear contacts to work, but not at home of course. Sooooo many reasons that can be fixed to make vr popular. but without fixing... crap just stays in a drawer to be forgotten about and no longer shared. too much hassle. but it did not have to be. if we had engineers that just made it right the first time before releasing it.

Ya easily made both polsitive and negative points that were true and releveant. But the video could have easily been filpped and spun showing the reasons it will make it. The lower end entry level consumer headsets, combined with the learning and scientific uses that it is capable of. I see that even though you made some good points there are many who dislike your video. Probably for the same reasons. Maybe do a bit more of upspin if ya have a mix of good and bad news. Get more flies with honey. We, who are interested in vr, don't want you making videos that are directly killing it. If you see an item to pick up, but your hand goes through it, it breaks the reality; if you want to play VR sports, but can't move easily without breaking your room or because you are physically unable, it breaks the reality; or it you see the want to fly, shoot, or jump, but can't feel the physics, it breaks the reality. Until this can be solved, it's nothing more than a gimmick.

                                                                                        • Darth Buzzer

@Jeffrey Kee Lets put it this way, the vast vast majority are immersed in VR today. That doesn't make it real, it just means it's immersive. You don't need perfection to achieve this.

Being unable to interact with objects breaks immersion only when you try to interact with them. After you've backed away and continue playing, you become immersed again.

Most people *are* satisfied with the experience to a degree that they are a) immersed and b) enjoy it. Put someone in Astro Bot and Beat Saber and I guarantee you that you'd have no more than a few dozen that don't enjoy it or become immersed. Everyone else would be into it.

                                                                                        • Jeffrey Kee

You are pretty sure of this, eh? Have you surveyed people on this? Do you work in the industry? Or are you just one consumer of the product? Your claim is the typical YouTube commentator response. Grand claims without backing. The things I said are still true if nothing else than the fact that I know dozens in close circles who agree with me. I work in media and have some good friends working in the VR industry, and I promise you that these problems are being talked about more and more. What you said is equivalent to a child trying to argue to a parent "No one likes eating Veggies," but they are too young to know that many people do. Yes, these are issues, and that is why the industry is trying to solve these problems. Until this is done, most people will not be satisfied with the experience. I suggest you do your research on the problems of a subject before making such a claim.

A big push from a console maker can end the software paradox problem (and if I was Sony I would be throwing a lot of money at Nanco/Bandai so they make a Ace Combat 8 fully integrated with VR in the PS5 as a launch or near launch title, they should push for games that work well with a controlled and in the couch to sell people on the headset and them start pushing other types of experiences that require peripherals).

As of right now VR is a expensive toy for high-end PC gamers, it needs to get at least a level lower in the consumer pyramid for developer makes quality software for it in a constant flux.
