So how much more range does the Tesla Model X have towing vs not towing? We found out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhX3BmhJXc8

josh alanis, that was a little harsh and uncalled for and I don't see it. I expect that Andre and Tommy don't feel that way and besides, Tommy is Roman's son.

@Stanley's Virtual Test-Drives how nice, it looks like TFL banned my comments. I guess, they don't like being reminded they could do a better job!

I think the Tesla Pickup will have to have at least a 200 kWh battery option if its to compete with the F-150. Maybe 400 kWh to compete with a diesel.

So, the only thing you want to tow with a Tesla is a diesel generator!

My first ever viewed video with this channel and you chickened out on getting the regen downhill? Are all your tests so one sided? 🤦‍♂️

        Should’ve towed it back

*during what's supposed to be the ultimate uphill towing test*:
Tommy: "this has gotta be some of the highest consumption I've seen!"
          Well yea.. hahaha
          2 min later:
Andre: "Quickest uphill towing test I've ever seen in my life"
Not taking the X back downhill was kind of a cop-out. I mean, if range is the main criticism and you're driving a vehicle with regenerative braking that's literally made to excel in that department.. that was kind of let down to what was otherwise a really enjoyable video.

Notice they baby the electric contraption, not showing the real world, go up the hill from the start and down, I know they are not allowed to show how useless these contraptions are.

Really embarrassing for those electric contraptions, look at all those yoyos at the plug in sites sitting in there sweating to death, just waiting to get the f going, what a waist of your life sitting at chargers half of your life. This electric car stuff raises anxiety rate 100 % always wondering if your going to make it and chewing your nails off hoping all the charging stalls are not occupied. This will be seen as one of the most stupid adventures of modernization, especially when you have to ban the compition.

Im tired of the "Uuuhh we cant supercharge bcus trailer will get towed". Get a hitch lock, the plate on the back of the trailer speaks for its self. If you tow it with a tesla, chances are you got it inspected with said tesla attached, so when they look it up to see who it belongs to, they'll know.

If you're really, REALLY concerned about the trailer getting towed off, park it over in the corner where its not in anyones way, and lock it up. Problem solved.

Not so bright of a group. Tesla towing a trailer, then trying to figure out how to charge the car when the battery is depleted. DUH, put generator in the trailer you are towing.

A couple things. First you can tow 5500 lbs with 20inch wheels. 2nd you should not extend the ball hight as requirements for this hitch. You unhook the trailer and charge. Set you speed with the cruise controll and turn the brake controller down when you go downhill i just finished 1000mile trip with over 4000 ft in elevation multiple times and a 4300lbs trailer . Uphill lower your speed to 55. If you make the math when driving up and down you will see that you get almost the same range as going straight ( close to 80%) keep the speed consistent and your range goes up again. You can drive around 110 mile in very hill parts and and 140 in flat area. I am just cutting the last film with from Vancouver to Revelstoke and back 1400 km with 8 charging stops

Let’s just be logical here. Tesla owners are not gonna tow horses if they’re gonna tow they’re gonna tow minor stuff not a horse cage. And if you do a lot of towing like that then maybe an EV isn’t for you.

Regarding very large EV, our company has purchased a few battery operated electric buses. One of the worst purchases they ever did. I can't see any true towing capacity from EV. The buses are comparable in weight to diesel buses of a similar style, yet the range is limited to 150 mi or so. An 8 hr day with the hills here (local routing, non-highway) results in major towing costs. The company now can only use them for short runs (50-75 mi) which lasts about 3 hrs to avoid dead buses on the road. Granted, the buses are NOT made by Tesla.
On a different note, I'd like to see the difference with your model X range doing the Gauntlet if Ol' Leadfoot there reduced the speed up the hill to 55 or so to see if it makes a difference in energy consumption. It IS pretty awesome that the Model X can pull damned near its maximum capacity at 70 MPH uphill with ease. My poor old 95 Powestroke can't do that for sure. Not withiut major mods anyway

They simply need to install a generator in the trailer and a 50 gallon gas tank to drive 300 miles - fixed! Isn't electric great?!

I’m saying the reason he had to press the accelerator downhill is because the car is in tow mode and has worked out the weight of the trailer , therefore has limited the speed to a safe level .

But is shows that the trailer has a huge drag resistance, reason why I argue that driving 60 mph instead of 70 mph on the flat will have a very severe reduction in consumption.

From my energy company, It takes 1.15 pounds of coal to produce 1kwh.
So, if you charge a model X 90kwh battery, How much coal are you burning? 1.15 x 90= 103.5 pound of coal to charge you free emission green electric car !!!
Then, plugged in or not plugged in you still have to produce the electricity incase some one plug in their car. How is this emission free? This is only to use an EV and not even the building process of their batteries.
