As someone who has low vit d levels it's really not that weird that in the 30s parenting guides recommended sunlight for babies, sunlight is good for the mood and keeping the body healthy these parents are laughing but they just sound ignorant, imagine not knowing what rickets is

Wow the ignorance is unreal! I can’t believe how dumb people are in this generation... it made sense to me... sunlight is for jaundice & vitamin D... Rickets is a bone disease that children develop from lack of vitamin D...

They were right about the sun. Milk was not fortified with vitamin D like it is now so our bodies needed to get it the natural way without the proper amount of vitamin D you can become very ill

Correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't heard this word in a while but isn't rickets just what they used to call osteogenesis imperfecta? xxx

No rickets is vitamin D deficiency in children. In adults it is called osteomalacia. In children it gives rise to bendy bones e.g. bow legs and stunts growth. Osteogenesis imperfecta aka brittle bone disease is a genetic condition.

A similar story to one I saw in the comments, my grandpa was born prematurely in 1924 at 2 pounds. They said he wouldn’t survive the night, but they put him in a shoebox next to a warm brick... He survived the night and lived to be 85.

Rickets effects bones. Bones needs vitamin D. Vitamin d comes from sunlight. 😎 My doctor even told me to spend more time in the sun because rickets runs in my family. It's a real thing and kids should spend more time outside.

“wAUt iS rIcKeTss?” Can they do this video with well educated people and then see the difference between the two videos? Rickets is a vitamin d deficiency that will soften bones. Considering this is advice from the time of the Great Depression, they did not have vitamin rich food to offer their babies/children, and many suffered and died from this (very common at the time, crazy rrriggggghhhhht?) disease. Considering their resources, putting babies/children in the sunlight was the best the had to offer...... because *-wow crazy thought-* you get vitamin d from the sunlight.

Iron deficiency is nothing to do with sunlight. It's due commonly to lack of iron in the diet. In babies if they are born small even if they are full-term they don't have enough iron stores so have iron deficiency.

“Toilet trained” and “potty trained” are actually two different things according to my grandmother who toilet trained my dad exactly like that. My Dad (born in 52) and as completely “trained” before his first birthday. BUT...It’s not exactly the training we think of today. By holding the baby over the toilet at the exact same time each day, along with warm water and or gentle pressure....moms definitely did some training. HOWEVER....it’s much more similar to a dog learning to go potty outside using positive reinforcement, the same times every day...etc. Babies would learn to let go of their wastes even though they weren’t mentally grasping WHY.
Of course...this is what my grandma explained to me and what her friends also did back in the early 50s. They were a military family and the mom’s would stay home and run a tight ship....so it was more likely it was the moms who were trained....not the babies

                                          :)

Even in -10 degrees; we dress them really warm and they sleep really good and they get used to the cold climate here.

Rickets (softening of bones due to poor calcium absorption) is caused by a vitamin d deficiency. Even morons such as yourselves have to know what sunlight provides a natural source of vitamin d... So bringing your infant outdoors would help to prevent rickets.
