Hmm, why do I feel like Mr Bostrom is of the exact kind of people that (imo) real innovators like Elon Musk despise...
Most of his views seem rather narrow minded (in the sense that the whole picture seems missing, it's always just about specific fields of science) - and purely academical.
Or to put it another way: Joe speaks of the "human brain", Mr Bostrom is constantly saying "neo cortex", but I'd argue he means the same.

(No personal attack intended. I just think I recognize a lot of the typical better-than-you-science-speak here, which academics use to pretend they're smarter than actually smart people.)

This would be a good question for Dawkins when he comes on. He hypothesized in The Selfish Gene that, for a given species, over time there are long periods of no evolutionary change with periodic short explosions. This could just be the normal evolutionary cycle

The list of impossible things that people take for granted and can't possibly work: TV, computers, cell phones, basically anything you're calling high tech. It's all in your heads, and it's not supposed to be here because it's all alien and doesn't belong here at all. In fact, some of these things are not like the others, some these things just isn't the same. Back to nature? No, that's been completely Fk'd because the imaginations of the rich compels them to build on every rock and mountain that reminds them of their dreams. Back to the way things that was way worse (why?). Can we avoid being burnt on a cross? Possibly yes. Can the majority get out of work? Actually no, most of you are just cord wood. If you are just a chunk of wood having a simulated experience then you must also be having heartburn. In the mirror the only darkness is at the tip of your finger when you touch it. Have a matter-anti-matter annihilation on me, you'll get energy from it, "it's got electrolytes." Be supernatural.

Wrong. As soon as we develop something that evolves into a truly self-aware life-form .... we are done as a species.

If we were studying another planet and saw life/animals which have worked in harmony for thousands of years with almost perfect ecology and then saw something spreading across it, burning, polluting, killing without clear motive in the short amount of time humans have been doing since the industrial revolution we would probably say its one of biggest, conscious parasites and it needs to be stopped quickly. Thats the worry if something ever starts watching us and can see that they must intervene because to be fair that is what we are. We are a consuming parasite. So even though invasion by another life in the universe would feel like an attack, it actually would be pretty understandable.

There needs to be a “universal AI killswitch” that can be activated at any time before they hand the entire human species survival ability over to a robotic overlord.

It's a good idea but implementing such a thing is going to be a giant challenge because a) all researchers and developers on the cutting edge have to be on the train and b) it need to be a killswitch the superior AI can't disable or circle through.

A big problem is strategic behavior like an AI behaving nicely and only when gaining enough power that counter measures are futile will it show its true motivation and you don't want a superintelligent bad actor running around the internet because good luck shutting down the internet.
I heard of one idea for a killswitch being a fake ethernet port that the AI goes for and when it does it gets shut down automatically. But if the thing is smarter than the designers it could possible foresee this and play nice and don't show any aggressive tendencies until it has found a way to escape that the designers hadn't thought of.
