3:20 It would so hilarious if Shadow scratched his screen right at that moment. Also you`re too damn fussy, man. I`ll take your monitor that you don`t like.

Get this 34" panel instead for $899, to hold you over until 2020 when we get DP 2.0 and 4K 144HDR with 4:4:4 sub sampling:
After updating to the newest firmware its GTG response falls to almost 0, its that good.

                Hey Linus
I'll trade you my new HKC 35" 3440x1440 100Hz monitor for that nasty LG you decided not to use, and I'll even pay the shipping and throw in a vesa mounting adapter.
                Whadya say?

1600p vs 1440p is no noticeable difference.
The next step is real 4k ultrawide 2160p (h)...
And then a gpu is needed for that again...
They barely handle 4k with max settings in AAA Titles.

                        @みず 21:9 is a standard now.
And the Panorama view feels a way better than 16:9 or 10.
I'll never go back from ultrawide.

Next upgrade should be an ultrawide with 2160p vertical.
But the gpu for that is the rtx 40xx... so 2 years in the future.

Linus don't make the error to try HDR on a 8bit settings, that is why you lose details in the highlights and shadows.

i'm not still at the end of the video, around 9:00 mark when you get your first "negative" point of comparison with the other monitor,, about HDR capablities.. i would argue against it, because the whole point of HDR IS displaying more "real estate" (keeping it simple here) in highs and lows.. a consequence of that is precisely that you CAN see the lens of the flashlight and you DON'T see only a bright spot that blinds you, that's a consequence of "burnt" highlights! Now that a kind of "real" HDR is coming to play and not just as a marketing gimmick, probably we'll see lots of weird reactions that i can see perfectly compared with the argument about The Hobbit movies and high frame rate digital production at the time (how those movies were written is another story :D).
What are your thoughts about it?
EDIT: it just occurred to me as i continued the video that you set it up in 8-bit, and that's a setting that doesn't allow you enough colors to properly go in the HDR realm (kind of the "marketing HDR" i was talking before), so you're kind of trimming the range of the monitor at SDR, and when you say that HDR gives you high contrast.. well, it's kind of the opposite, really. "Proper" (desired looks and creative choices aside) HDR imaging has generally the effect of lowering overall contrast, compared to what we are used to, and boosting local contrast, and i'll throw out a guess about that's the reason the rocks details seem strange to you..
In general, "real" HDR imaging give that weird feeling to our eyes, "trained" - or just used to - see images and video made in the last 100yrs of "low def" production.
Right now the HDR thing is in a weird place because it also depends on how the [generic content] is made - given that things are also made to work on standard range -, in fact monitors themselves still rely on trickery like dimming or boosting based on the image because basically there's still not technology around to "just do the whole range". Also, you can factor in that the local dimming or boosting is in fact a neat trick that somehow mimics how our eyes work.. To be REALLY accurate to our perception, the dimming or boosting should focus on where our eyes are focusing, but here we are going in a whole bigger debate about the medium itself :D
