  • I played a piece by Maryanne Amacher to a bunch of YouTubers and filmed their reactions. Insane stuff!

Once you told me to listen for the additional tones I could pick them up, but I probably wouldnt have heard them if you hadnt told me.
And its true! My ears kinda felt like they were vibrating at certain points

Just listened to Maryanne Amachers album "Sound Characters"... it was quite something. I appreciated the more "ambient" parts more than the high pitched tonal ones like "Chorale" mentioned in the video but I did experience the strange effect as well. It is subtle, even with high volumes I am uncomfortable with due to my sensitive hearing. An experience to be had at least once I think. Now I must rest my ears and deal with my tinnitus being exacerbated or being exasperatingly sensitive to it.

4:20 I've been trying my best to hear the otoacoustic emissions but I just can't. At least the sound that you show (2:57) that's supposed to get self-produced from this piece.

Is it because I have perforated eardrum on my left ear? Does this experiment really have to rely on perceptions of both ears to produce the sound/vibration?

I rarely benefit from stereo earphones when listening to music (althougb that's my common music listening tool), maybe aside from occassionally blowing my own mind on the sound I've been missing out every time I switch earphone sides.

Sound is pretty cool eh?

I was like "is Adam seriously suggesting that our ears produce sounds?!! He's lost it." Then I found this from the _American Speech Language Hearing Association_ :
"Your ear is made up of three parts—the outer, the middle, and the inner ear. The OAE test is used to find out how well your inner ear, or cochlea, works. It measures otoacoustic emissions, or OAEs. *These are sounds given off by the inner ear when responding to a sound.* There are hair cells in the inner ear that respond to sound by vibrating. The vibration produces a very quiet sound that echoes back into the middle ear. This sound is the OAE that is measured."
