Finding alien life on a distant planet would be amazing news - or would it? If we are not the only intelligent life in the universe, this probably means our days are numbered and doom is certain.

@Nabarup Ghosh Because every time someone goes back in time to a certain point in the past, a new time-branch is created at that point, that leads to a new time continuum i.e sort of a new parallel universe, so the original version of yourself doesn't see the time-travelers, only your new version does, in the new time continuum. The fact that we haven't see them, is because most likely we are on the original time continuum! OR, if we are not on the original time continuum they have visited us, but under cover due to the laws preventing them from interfering too much. One thing is certain: even if they cannot visit us on the original time continuum, they can see us with TV-like devices (like in the movie Deja Vu (2006) with Denzel Washington).

This vid is good and well explained, however, i already had enough of doomsday shits. I would rather just live each day at its best, while taking care of my planet (using bicycle instead of car for short distance travel, planting trees, etc) and getting a good paying job so i will not be broke anymore

I've got to disagree, kurzgesagt. there is at least one theory suggesting that complex life could exist outside of the goldilocks zone. The expanding and contracting of a world around a larger one could cause enough internal heat to warm the waters underneath a planet's icy outer shell or deep under the ground. or even a lifeform that doesn't require water at all.

also, what if we've made a mistake in suspecting that there is a great insuperable filter at all. we have to avoid the dangers that plague intelligent species of course, but suppose that there are millions of intelligent species in this galaxy that destroy themselves, but there would still be many that are careful enough to move beyond such destructive ends.

I like to think that we're capable of the same, but time will tell i guess.

Also, if we were lucky enough to meet an intelligence that was able to move on, they could help us overcome these barriers like in the movie "Contact". We don't have to assume such a dark and gloomy outcome. We could have hope that they mean well and would like to understand us, just as we would like to understand them. Surely the galaxy is big enough for everyone.

But the universe is so vast that discovering alien life would only translate into a minuscule probability that the filter is in front of us. Thinking we are safe just because we haven't discovered other life is just equivalent to closing your eyes and ears and saying "Na-na-na-na-na..." Ignorance is bliss.

I remember u mention on the other video that there's maybe a superior being that is great filter itself. superior being that watching us and then annihilate us when our technology advances enough.

in my opinion, that is the most likely scenario. I kinda confused why u didn't mention it on this great filter video.

I hope we can become advanced enough to reverse the destruction of our planet before we try to colonize other planets. With renewable energy and fusion energy it seems reasonable that we could do it.

Me not being able to experience the sight of going to planet to planet. I'll hope that humans will make it there but I like thinking on what's around me and living in the now and thinking about what is possible for me instead of thinking of what is impossible for me.
