Frank Sinatra - "Something"

  • Published: 11 July 2014
  • Something in the way she moves
Attracts me like no other lover
Something in the way she woos me

I don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

Somewhere in her smile she knows
That I don't need no other lover
Something in her style that shows me

Don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

You're asking me will my love grow
    I don't know, I don't know
You stick around now it may show
    I don't know, I don't know

Something in the way she knows
And all I have to do is think of her
Something in the things she shows me

Don't want to leave her now
You know I believe and how

Wait! Did I hear Frank just say "Stick around Jack"? Better if Frank said "Stick around you Broad, you Sexy Chick You".

What's interesting is, I read that Sinatra HATED Elvis and the original 50s rockabilly music (he was 40 in 1955 so maybe he just couldn't connect with the youth culture anymore), so it's nice to see that he mellowed out 10 or 15 years later and gave The Beatles credit. "Something" is actually closer to his jazz style in a way too.

True I think he let the bitterness go once he realized he didnt need to force his way into relevance, After bashing R&R for years he conceded Elvis had talent, and in his later years went on to become the veteran "mentor" as seen by his advice to then noob Tom Jones, that seemingly warm interaction with Michael Jackson and that "pep talk" letter he sent George Michael, (plus his disco song,...cant forget about his disco song XD) although i dont think he ever changed his mind about Light My Fire by The Doors- he most definitely hated it

Our fathers said to us: We grew up listening to Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Beatles, Bee Gees, ABBA...

This is okay, although I much prefer Harrison's version and the 'Jack' throw-in is a little silly.

At least it's not a cheap Beatles cover band. Sinatra did an excellent interpretation of the song!

Love Sinatra. Not his best work on this interpretation of what he credited with being the best love song of the last half of the 20th century. Feels like he over thought it, trying too hard to do it justice.

It is a beautiful melody with an almost sublime lyrical sentimentality. I won't speak about the original or Paul's ukulele cover both of which are iconic. This too in my mind attains that same standard. Frank's voice is silvery smooth, relaxed, rich and not overly stylized. We don't hear voices today so inherently pleasing. This being said, what strikes me in equal proportion is the LUSH perfectly balanced almost counterpoint string arrangement. This really makes this interpretation SPECIAL.

Took a long time to find this song and the story goes that I was leaving Brooklyn the back way out(Narrows Bridge) still half drunk , didn't want to listen to no R&B or Rap and just turned the dial to the AM Radio Station and this song was playing the lyrics and background orchestra was so hyptnotic and it reminded me of a Snowy winter day but after I listen to many other versions of this song with their own interpretations I believe Frank was actually talking about leaving the city of New York behind and not a physical female. Hey that's my take and I can't tell one of his songs I know.
