It *literally* is worse at driving than a 10 year old put behind the wheel for the first time. I know because I've sat in the car with a 10 year old playing in a vehicle in a parking lot and they did better.

              Self driving any day, right?

I noticed that it didn't follow the lines of the space it was parked in. What if there were cars parked beside the Tesla? Can it deal with cars parked close to it? And does it work at night?

It will be a great feature one day. I can see using that not only in the rain, but also when some idiot parks so close that you can't open your door without banging it into the other car. It will be a great feature one day.

                  1. Ultrasonics don't work farther than 3ft.
                  2. Summon should avoid delineated parking spots and not drive like a maniac, a person would get cited for driving all over the parking stalls like that.
                  3. Summon should not drive on the left side or in the middle of the road, even in parking lots.
                  4. Summon still has a long way to go.

@Alex Venz people here i Texas also would drive over the lines in a parking lot...in fact most driving schools actually teach student driver to never back up more than needed so using empty parking lot the way the car did in this early demo is likely safer. Sure it has a ways to go still but how can you (meaning people in general) not be impressed with the amazing progress Tesla has made already?

I feel like you've never watched humans drive through parking lots in California and don't realize that, for the most part, nobody gets cited for anything in private parking lots...

Also, Hardware 2+ ultrasonics have a range of about 8m according to Tesla (unsure of accuracy/precision outside of near-field, though).

This system is not real world ready by no means. It's really unsafe and irresponsible for Tesla to provide the system for people to use.
It doesn't follow traffic rules, doesn't stop at the stop sign, drives the wrong lane, drives through parking places just because it thinks it's 'drivable' space, gets confused by shadows etc.

Honestly, I initially gave this video a thumbs up, but after reaching the 10:25 mark and hitting the self promotion, I took it away. YouTube is just too rife with self-promotion nowadays, it's just sad. The old days of people posting videos just to help others out are completely gone. Everyone's in it for the money now.

Why not park between two cars? Looks like the car would have totally clipped the car next to it should one been parked there in test 1. Then why can't the car maintain its lane @ 6:00ish? And at 10:00 it parks on the line like a crappy driver (also like the red car parked across from it).

This video has me on edge also. All videos with Enhanced Summon on all social media sites are being shown with the Model 3. This is not a Model 3 exclusive feature. I have not seen a single Model S or Model X test video using enhanced Summon. Will the Model S/X be able to perform the same as the Model 3. I don't think so. The Model S is lower, the model X is higher. Especially with the suspension set to max height. Once this feature is public, I will be posting a Model X enhanced Summon to see if what i see in this video is the same.

The speed bumps as well as the parking lot lanes needs work. Ideally i am anticipating summon to be able to stay in the lane and not cross over an open parking spot. Then again, this test is being conducted in an empty parking lot.

If you are so confident in Summon's ability, then test this feature in a packed parking lot. That way we can teach the Neural Net (that is if the White Model 3 is using HW3) ,

Thanks for the demo. After all this time, THIS is where Tesla is, version 4, almost doesn’t suck (Elon speaking)? You use so many big positive words that I feel the need to point out to you that this is not much better than the demo’s 6 months ago. It drives a little bit faster, I give you that. The typical use case you describe at the end ... is not it, I’m afraid. All this ultra smart summon is going to do is unpark the car and bring it to the front door for you and your family to get in. Not taking lines into account at all, and scaring away from shadows, and attracting spectators. Great that next week (last weeks promise) we will see world wide deployment of this feature, I can’t wait.

Tesla should let you write down the lane where car can go, and then car should decide if there are any obstacle to either go around them or notice user of obstacle...

Yes when the ultrasonic sensors recognized a large metal object 2 feet to the rear left it would have gotten annoyed and accelerated to push it out of the way.

But more seriously. I think you are judging how it deals with the camera sensors and thinking it has no other sensors. It overrides what it thinks it is seeing when the ultrasonic sensors says something is there. The ultrasonics is what saves you on the freeway when someone doesn’t see you and merges into you. It will do everything possible to keep objects from colliding with the car.

This is not even a alpha software. Why is it in a consumer product??? Examples below:
                                            - Driving over parking space lines
                                            - Ignoring stop signs
                                            - Driving on the wrong side of the road

All creds to you that you are transparent with your testing though! But next time do this in a closed testing space, not in a public space.

                                            This is illegal driving, bro.

tesla drivers are dangerous: 1. you have to have little intelligence to buy a tesla. 2. many buy it because of autopilot they think its a solution to them being a bad driver. 3. they are extremely frustrated with all the problems with their car for which they paid a premium price 4. they think they are the solution to world problems but in fact they are the problem so they naturally constantly place themselves in stupid situations...

Good question as some EAP features like when navigation is engaged during rain it says its limited. Also why was it between both lines under the awning? I still say its months away before I trust it.

This is only available for testers, as they are much more cautious about using this technology. It still doesn’t explain how this is still going to kill someone, it is really sensitive. So accept that fact or else we are going to be stuck with the same technology for way longer than it should.

When all cars are autonomous they will drive randomly the shortest distance. Like ants. It will be much more efficient you will see.

But really you are complaining about a part of the software they have not released yet. I’m sure they want it to understand shadows before they bother where in the parking lot it will drive. They are still testing what I think Elon called open space. They need to have open space perfect so when it is staying to the correct side of the lane in the future it knows it’s options if a car is disabled in the lane it planned on driving in. So it can go around it.

The car is simply driving in whatever space is derivable, it doesn't care (yet) what side it picks or if it crosses lines or anything.

My garage door is only 6 inches wider than my Model 3. When I am really tired my fine depth perception is terrible. So I drive up to my house get 2 feet from my garage door. Put it in park. Pull out my phone and while sitting in the drivers seat use summon to park in the garage. I guarantee I would have a higher chance of hitting a mirror than it does.

Once enhanced summon is available it will be nice to not use my wheelchair in the parking lot. I really worry about how well people see me. Putting the car at risk is much safer than putting me at risk.
