I assumed this was its own movie because on The Dark Knight, when they arrested him, Gordon said he had no matches on prints, DNA, no name despite him being on TV.

A BIG thing I didn't hear anyone mention=Arthur was planning on blowing HIS brains out of Murray's show; but worked himself up into a psychotic state and shot Murray, instead. Two previous scenes indicate it; if you watch knowing the outcome. Zuma Dogg

I read the last scene or two differently. Throughout the first two acts, his laughing was a 'condition'. Near the start of the third act, he recognises that his laughing is actually a part of him. It is part of who he is... You might notice that the laughter in the last scene is slightly different than previous scenes. He now gets the joke, that his subconscious has been physically manifesting all this time. For once, his conscious and subconscious are aligned in his new persona as the Joker. The character arc is complete. This is his new steady-state, as The Joker.

Anyone else read it this way?

Mannnn... I wish the joker would have been a little more creative. Like when he gets called up to the murray show. He's at the club taking notes. He knows how to write a joke. He could have been funny on purpose for the people during the show even if it's not his style of comedy showing his genious...then take a dark turn using his style . Make it personal for murray. Like use something from Murray's past that is messed up and then joke about it, making it awkwardly funny before he blows his mind on set and go out with a bang. To me there was no defining moment that made him "the joker"

I think when joker said you wouldn’t “ understand “it’s because he knows the nurses never truly listen (a thing he used to want ) but now he doesn’t care because he’s so sure of himself and doesn’t need evaluation

But it amazes me how much nonsensical articles came out of this. I can't take them seriously anymore. It's all clickbait and you want to appeal to different kind of people so you need different opinions and someone has to write them.

Watched it yesterday and I'm not so sure about it.
It felt like it would've been better of without the DC connection or at least could be a standalone.
It also felt somewhat dragged out. I was always waiting for something to happen and escalate but it never really did.
The acting is masterclass though, as is the score and the filming itself.
I'm not sure whether I like it or not.
Its It's definitely a bit exhausting to watch because it's constantly down, sad and grim and doesn't give you many breaks. Need some time before I'll rewatch it.

this one is "dangerous" (although for me it's hopeful) because the reasons behind the violence is totally believable and most of all justifiable. I, 100% would do the same as the joker in those situations if I had nothing to lose.

There’s some dark Tarantino style humor in this movie, an example is the two clown friends that visit jokers apartment and he kills the friend that lended him a gun and ratted him out, while the little guy freaks out but is allowed to leave, but not without needing the joker to help unlock the door for him with a dead body on the floor, I was half cracking up half scared shitless for the little guy’s safety

I definitely agree with Chris that art shouldn't be blamed for real life circumstances. But I don't think the "dangerous" nature of this film is in relation to its amount of violence- rather the uncomfortable reality that in the world we live in individuals like the Joker are not purely fictional anymore and seem to be proliferating. An individual who is incredibly disturbed can definitely see this movie and feel "inspired" to do something terrible. But in light of this I believe it's ridiculous to put so much focus and blame on the movie as the sole culprit of an individual commiting henious crimes- but rather we should be focused on how messed up our world is right now that we have this constant fear of individuals being pushed or "inspired" to these extremes on such a constant basis.
And correspondingly have a real conversation on what we need to do as a society to change this. In my opinion that's why it's important for movies like this to exist- but instead it seems like so many people just want everything to be censored and politically correct- but ultimately this can create even greater problems.
IN MY OPINION- (That's all any of us can really offer in these conversations.)

Any movie made today borrows things from other films. And thats because almost everything and anything that can be done in films, has already been done. So I dont know why a joker film borrowing key elements from taxi driver, or kings of comedy while putting its own spin on it would be an issue? It's kind of hypocritical as well, cause if you're gonna get on a film like joker for borrowing from other films. Yet praise other films that do the same thing. Then thats just complete nonsense.

I watched it and I highly enjoyed it, but the extreme violence and the potential for people to be inspired to commit crimes I didn't see it in this film. The over-hype of those two things I mentioned are baffling to me and I think deep down...they want this to become a reality.

I believe that the Joker movie *is* dangerous... because there are many individuals like the Joker character who may or may not have "special needs" -- like Joker's laughing condition -- that cause kind people to avoid them and evil people to attack them, and are living lives of isolation (rejection or perceived rejection by others/society), madness, and hatred... and the film gives the males among them a model to follow -- an outlet to let out all the frustration and anger with society, though it is a one-way trip, never to return -- just like it was for Joker. It may, for example, promote more mass shootings by marginalized individuals with mental health problems.

(I was terrorized by the heart scene, followed by the scene of the man crushed by the grinder, then the mine cart scene.) I begged my mom to let us leave before the movie was over; thankfully, she listened to me, and we walked out. It took a week for me to get over the experience. We had gone to see it as a matinee together.
