Don Beebe should be in the top 5. James Jett and Darius Heyward-bey also worth mentioning. There were many RBs. O.J. Simpson, Eric Dickerson, Thurman Thomas, Danny Woodhead, Dave Megget, Darrin Sproles, Jamal Charles, Ricky Waters, Hershal Walker, ladainian Tolmlinson, Pierre Thomas, Marcus Allen, Shady McCoy l

@sydboski yea my comment was cut off someway. I ment to say they were quickness like you said. Don Beebe ran a 4.2 in the 40 in college. yea deon caught him once but that doesent really mean much he very likely let up after he past everyone. just like when Dickerson was caught. IN a game many things come into play--how tired is the guy, how old is he, is he injured ect. Beebe was insane fast and everyone knows it.I'm sure he could outrun mike vick and bo Jackson. Getting caught by deon doesn't mean yu are slow. deon caught everyone.

The only players from your list that deserve even mentioning are Jett 10.16 100m, Walker 10.23, Charles 10.23. None of the rest ran faster than 10.6. You names a lot of quick and shifty players, they weren't straight line dragster fast. Beebe was easily run down from behind by Deion Sanders (10.26). So he was not that fast.

They did. But this is what you get when opinions are used instead of actual measured speed. Had they used actual measured speed to rank the fastest the list would be totally different. Only Gault, Green and Hayes would still be on the list. The rest would not make the top 10.

Darrell Green was fasssssssst! BUT, Bob Hayes ran an 8.5 final leg in the 4x100 relay in Tokyo. In a game against the Giants, he caught a slant at the 30, and blasted upfield, with Clarence Childs chasing him. Fastest 70 yards in NFL history, and after the game he was asked if he was worried that Clarence would catch him. His reply? "nah, Clarence was 'only' a 9.3 man in college." Now, THAT is fast.

@Brad Griffin1. Again it was a relay split. During the relay all of the runners do not run exacrly 100m. It depends on when you get the stick. The start of the 100m dash is exactly in the middle of the passing zone. So if you get the stick in the latter half of the zone you are not running a full 100m if you get the stick near the end of the zone you can run as low as 91m. I'd like to see this verification. Please post the link. 2. So that was just an opinion. 3. Oh it's accurate alright. Hayes ran 10.06 personal best during the Olympic final in 1964.
Jacoby Ford and Jeff Demps both ran 10.01. Trindon Holliday ran 10.00 twice and Jim Hines ran 9.95 when he became the first human to officially break the 10 second barrier during the Olympic final in 1968. If you need verification you can do so on the IAAF web site under athlets just type in the name scroll down hit the name listed and go to the personal best tab.

@sydboski (1) if you check, they did manage to verify the 8.5 time, because they counted the frames per second and measured them. The time was verified that way, perhaps 3 years ago. (2) clearly I don't know it was the fastest 70 yards, but it was fast, and it'd be difficult to find one faster (3) I don't think that is an accurate statement - name them

                      1. The 8.5 was a relay split and not accurately measured. Plus it was hand timed which makes it even more inaccurate.
                      2. How do you know that was the fastest 70 yards in NFL history?
                      3. There are other players with faster 100m times than both Green and Hayes.

                        1. Relay splits are mot official.
                        2. Relay splits are not accurate.
                        3. Hand timed relay splits are even more inaccurate.
Hayes' official 100m dash time is 10.06 during the 100m final in 64. Now there are 4 players that have run faster than that.

@Bobby K Yes the video is an opinion. Good thing speed is not an opinion. Speed is measurable and provable. Just because you believe Bo's run was the fastest you've ever seen doesn't mean that it is. Bo was running against slower players which made him look even faster as was Moss. But both of them were run down from behind. Bo was caught by Bengal DB Rod Jones, and Moss was run down from behind by Terence Newman. Watching hi-lights makes speed relative. Relative to the others running on the field with them. Bob Hayes has a hi-light of him catching a pass and the defender was right behind him for a bit until the defender dove and missed. It made Hayes look not so fast. But when you find out who was chasing him just happened to be the 200m Olympic champion, it puts the scenario in to another light. On Bo's run, he had Bozworth (4.6), Kenny Easley (4.5) and Arnold Brown (who played 2 seasons and was out) chasing him. same with Moss, slower guys chasing him. Bo ran a personal best 100m dash in 10.44. That is the fastest Bo has ever run. What makes you think Bo can out run a football player who ran say...10.10 100m? 10.10 to 10.44 is a considerable distance in the 100m. So, they BOTH put on 8-12lbs of football equipment. They BOTH use football cleats and run on turf or grass. They BOTH would run slower no doubt. But for some reason you think Bo magically would get faster or the 10.10 guy would slow down considerably more than Bo, so Bo would be faster. That makes no sense whatsoever. The 10.10 guy still would run faster than the 10.44 guy, with everything still being equal. In the video link I posted FF to 2:44. There you will see the fastest chase in NFL history. Darrel Green 10.08 100m chasing Ron Brown 10.06 100m. Both of them would absolutely crush Bo and Moss in a race goal line to goal line. They can only dream of running this fast.

@sydboski Of course it's my opinion. The video itself is an opinion. Nobody knows. Bo Jackson's 91 yard run on MNF vs Seattle was the fastest run by a football player I've ever seen. And Randy Moss' run along the sidelines vs the Cowboys on Thanksgiving was right there. How accurately could they time a race in 1964 when Bob Hayes won the gold medal? Plus, speed on a track is different from speed on a football field with pads and helmet. I'll go with Bo Jackson until someone can prove he wasn't the fastest.

@Larry Calhoun 3rd Most feared and fastest are 2 different things. He had good speed, but what made him dangerous was his quickness, elusiveness, vision and instincts. He was not straight line dragster fast. He ran 4.41 40y and 10.62 100m dash. That 10.62 would rank him 73rd among NFL players with verifiable 100m times. If you need further proof you can look at his SuperBowl return. Colt's safety Mat Giordano, who is not blazing fast himself, was running Hester down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGtxZlQwxNQ&t=79s
Hester was fast just not blazing fast. There are plenty of guys in the NFL that would blow his doors off in a race goal line to goal line.

I’m sorry but Chris Johnson being number 10 is bullshit that man literally has the second fastest 40 of all time
I guess we’re talking in game speed and even then that’s a travesty

They don't go by any set parameters. They used their opinion. They couldn't use the 40 because timing is different pre 1999 and post 1999. Plus the 40 doesn't measure how fast these players are. On field speed is not measurable to compare players not on the same field. They should have used the 100m dash. If they did. The only players that would be on the list from this video are Gault, Green, and Hayes.

What about them? Only one on your list has world class speed. Hill's 100m dash ranks him 21st all time in NFL history. The others are mich slower than him. Ross 10.66, Hester 10.62. Hall wasn't even a track guy.
