@6:50 What are you talking about? Orbital (and suborbital) rockets go much faster than this, though if you contest their 'on this planet' nature, what about the manhole cover that launched off an underground nuclear test? The single frame of slow-mo that it appeared in says it was moving *at least* 60 km/s, or roughly 25 times faster than your falcon punch (which is why it probably vaporized over the next fraction of a second).

That aside, this is honestly a surprisingly consistent answer—I'm not an expert on captain falcon... like, at all, having never played or really watched any nintendo games, but from the short clips shown in the video, the associated kinetic energy seems to be in about the right ballpark. As a fun fact, if he's really energy efficient, then he'll be burning just a couple burgers worth of calories per punch (food, and fuels in general, have a *lot* of energy in them. It also takes a lot of energy to heat things up, which is why guns are such good weapons and why lasers suck—guns take the massive amount of energy released by combustion and convert it to a projectile which is much more effective at destroying something than the same amount of energy applied as heat. Thinking about it another way, melting something means sheering *all* the bonds between the molecules. On the other hand, cutting/piercing/ripping something to pieces requires breaking almost none by comparison, which is, again, why laser suck for most purposes—heating is an *incredibly* energy-ineffective way to damage things).

The force calculation at the end makes no sense—force is not a useful measure of damage done, energy is. You, for some reason, converted energy back to force, but it's meaningless—yeah, it would be like 2 saturn rockets taking off on your face... for a minuscule fraction of a second. It tells us nothing. What *does* tell us something is the kilogram of TNT number, for example. Though nowhere near all that energy would actually be delivered into the target, or even released, but would rather be reabsorbed (as heat and tearing bones and flesh) into the arm as it comes to a stop at the end of his reach, having punched clean through his opponent while shredding his own hand xD

HEY! Live-action simba! Please read this! You used the original game to measure the acceleration for his punch but in later games, he used about a second to charge the heat up. What if Captain Falcon is using that charge time to speed up his fist so his acceleration is much, much less. The ring of fire that appears around his fist/glove a frame before punching also could be the shockwave of his fist speeding up. How about that?

Hey Kyle love the show! (And your hair)

Quick question: If the falcon punch travels fast enough to ignite Captain’s glove, once his fist enters his opponent, would it cauterize the wound it created as it dissipates the heat (assuming they didn’t fly)? Depending on how hot it is, you actually might be able to vaporize the blood inside the target and cause them to explode from the inside out with just your fist, pretty metal.
Same train of thought as the “laser sword” episodes.

Of course while I think we all know that it's impossible for a human to actually be able to accelerate any part of our body to the speed needed to produce a falcon punch, there is at least one key factor that can have a massive impact on how quickly someone is able to move their arm, leg, etc. That factor can be where on the acting limb the muscle connects. Every muscle in the human body has an origin and insertion point and where that insertion point it will affect the speed at which the limb can move. If a muscle, say the biceps, inserts farther down on the forearm it will be able to contract and cause a much faster movement as opposed to inserting closer to the elbow.

If Captain Falcon were to more realistically be able to generate enough speed to generate a flaming punch, his pectoralis major would need to insert essentially at his elbow which could make him look like he would have webbing like a sugar glider.

                                                                                • Dexter De Guia

I mean, there's no work to be done over a distance and that much kinetic energy would probably be hard to stop once he got it going.
